We’re ushering in a new season at Solutions Bridal, and felt it was time to (re)introduce ourselves. Through this weekly series, you’ll get to meet our full team, learn about our personalities, hobbies, interests and a few fun facts along the way. Without further ado, we’ll introduce you to our sales director and bridal stylist with more than 14 years of experience, Jessica Vargas.
Name: Jessica Vargas
Title: Sales Director & Senior Stylist
Hometown: New York, NY
About me – I am a no-nonsense native New Yorker. I’m very creative, and some would call me a free spirit because I like to make my own rules. I’m a team player and love collaborating. I have two sons, Neo and Daniel, and they’re the lights of my world. I’ve had a few jobs that had nothing to do with bridal fashion, but I’ve always felt most at home surrounded by white dresses and luxurious fabrics. I love pop culture and old movies — name any Audrey Hepburn movie and I’ll tell you all about the outfits she wears in it. My fashion icon is Coco Chanel. I love to travel and visit new places, but I truly love being at work. (When I’m away, I miss the dresses.)
What I enjoy doing in my Spare Time: I love spending time with my sons. I have a six-month-old son and a sixteen-year-old son. Family is very important to me, so I try to spend as much time with them as possible. We like to be outside in nature, so we go to parks a lot.
You’d be surprised to know … I‘ve been around fashion and design since I was a small child. My grandmother was a nurse, but she loved to sew and make clothing for people who couldn’t afford what they needed. I must’ve been 3 or 4 when I first saw my grandmother thread a needle and I’ve been intrigued by fashion ever since.
Best Part of My Job … Meeting new people and helping women find their perfect gown. The best thing a bride can say to me is, “I trust you.” I also love getting to create custom looks for each bride to showcase her individual style. I love that the designers and seamstress we work with take the vision we create together and make it come to life.
If I chose a dress for myself to wear today … I would wear a duchess satin ball gown with a long train and silk buttons all the way down the back. It would have to have a well-tailored boning structure. It would be very classically elegant — maybe portrait or an off-the-shoulder neckline.
My dream wedding will be … At a huge castle in the winter with Garnet velvet drapes and dramatic chandeliers everywhere. Very royal and wintery looking I love the idea of arriving on black stallion carriage with my Prince waiting for me.
How I came to work at Solutions … I worked at Wedding Atelier on Madison Avenue in the same building as Monique Lhullier in New York, when I met a bridal buyer from Florida who accidentally walked in to our floor. I greeted her and began to show her our showroom, and talk about the dresses we carried. She listened and asked me questions, but she knew she was in the wrong place. I had no idea! She was kind of picking my brain, and I told her all about the designers, the dresses and their details.
She must’ve been impressed with me because she offered me a job on the spot! I was floored by her offer, but I had no intention of moving any time soon, but she planted the idea in my head. A few months later, I flew down to Florida to visit family and I decided to book two interviews: one with her shop and one at Solutions Bridal to give me another option. As much as I loved and respected her, Solutions felt like the right place for me. My interview was at the beginning of August, and I moved at the end of the month. I don’t prolong things!
Favorite Celebrity Bridal Look … I have a few! The hand-work on Jackie Kennedy’s gown is incredible. I also love Grace Kelly’s whole look, as well as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s. And, of course, Audrey Hepburn. All very classic and clean silhouettes, but each of them are iconic for unique reasons.
What Erica says about Jessica:
Jessica is a straight-shooter. She combines her New York tough-girl style with genuine concern and care for every bride she meets. She will do anything in her power to make a bride’s vision come to life. She’s not interested in finding a bride a “good-enough” dress. She’s going to find them the PERFECT dress, the one that makes her feel like the most beautiful version of herself. Jessica is more than a bridal stylist: she is an advocate, a counselor, and the bride’s biggest cheerleader. She is a teacher and an encourager for everyone on our team. We can always rely on her to make us laugh with a great piece of candid advice.
