Bridal Fashion Week
Twice a year, bridal salon owners and bloggers attend Bridal Fashion Week. For those who don’t know, Bridal Fashion Week is a long weekend in October and April where designers showcase their latest collection. Bridal boutique owners purchase new gowns and accessories for their stores while bloggers attend to share latest trends. What brides and bridal fashion lovers don’t know, is bridal fashion week are long days and it’s a lot of hard work. Meetings from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, dinners starting at 9:00 pm, and running around the city, the weekend gets very tiring after a couple of days. Solutions Bridal buyer, Tali, Salon Manager, Roberta, and Bridal Fashion Blogger, Jamie will be in New York for Bridal Fashion Week from April 23rd to April 26th. Be sure to follow our story on Instagram @Solutionsbridal and follow our hashtag #sbbridalweek.
Here are a few things about bridal fashion week that most people don’t know and some behind the scenes photos.
- The Days Are Long
“Our day starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends with a 9:00 p.m. dinner. Every hour we meet with a different designer. Half of our time is spent meeting with new designers while the other half is spent meeting with designers we don’t currently carry. We use Bridal Fashion Week as a time to buy and research. In order to be confident in our collection, it is important to view all quality designers. At dinner, we pretty much talk about dresses for another two hours. We share our favorites and critique the ones we would customize. ” -Solutions Bridal Vice President and Bridal Buyer, Tali
- Dress to impress
It’s important to look your best at bridal market. We are meeting with our designers and meeting other bridal salons from all over the world, so looking professional is a must. Here at Solutions Bridal, we are known for wearing all black. So we typically wear a little black dress or black suit with heels. The days are long, so it’s also important to wear something that will look clean and crisp no matter if it’s 9:00 am or 7:00 pm.
- Pack Snacks
The days are long. Our schedule is booked from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm with little time in between appointments to eat. Designers either showcase their collections in their New York showrooms or in hotels like The London, so if you’re running all over the city you may not even have 5 minutes to eat. It’s important for us to bring snacks like protein bars. Our designers do provide snacks and drinks including cheese plates, croissants, and espresso during their appointments, but after a while, it doesn’t keep you full.
- The buying process
“It’s not about the numbers. I’m sure in the corporate buying world, there are so many tools and statistics to show what to buy. I have no tools which can make it challenging. I have to rely mainly on gut and listening to my client’s needs and wants. There is no longer a “today’s bride”. We help so many clients from all over the country and they all seem to want something a little different.” -Solutions Bridal Vice President and Bridal Buyer, Tali
